A Bit of Information about Mobile Apps

A mobile app is a software application tailored to operate on smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. Mobile apps could not exist until cell phones were devised. The earliest mobile phones used a microchip for the delivery and receipt of messages – but that was so 90’s. Actually the very first cell phone call was made in 1973! The device used for this historic event weighed 2 pounds, cost $4000 and – as you might expect – did not have any mobile apps.

Mobile apps first came on the technology scene in handheld computers like palm pilots that were all the rage in the 1990s – but quickly disappeared as innovations to mobile phone technology. With each passing generation of mobile phones their ability to manipulate information and store information grew exponentially thereby opening the door for what is now the phenomenon of mobile apps.

Mobile app development itself is a process in which mobile app developers who have an expertise on a particular platform will perform the coding and programming required to create the final product. This has opened up a whole new employment field and mobile app developing companies are constantly in search of persons with this expertise. Today mobile apps for businesses incorporate a variety of competencies including (but not limited to) inventory management, shopping carts, accounting and much, much more.

And, while some sites will offer you directions on ‘how to create your mobile app in 12 steps’ it is probably a better solution to leave this to the experts. In fact, one industry heavy-hitter claims there were three phases to the mobile app development trajectory beginning with simple telephony and progressing to gaming (such as the once popular Snake whose creation opened the door for broader applications of software that would run apps on phones) and finally to apps that are content oriented and maximize their usefulness without being a nuisance. Many apps vie for the honor of being your ‘home screen’ which moves their viability to the ‘top of the heap’ – a coveted position for any app.

If you own a business or service the question is no longer ‘should you have a mobile app’ but ‘why don’t you have a mobile app’? This is truly the marketing medium of today and tomorrow.

What Is SEO And Why Is It Important?

SEO successSEO, or Search Engine Optimization is essentially a methodology used to increase the amount of visitors to a specific website. By achieving a higher “ranking” your placement in the list of similar websites is higher on the ”results” page of a search engine.

Search engines are programs like Google, Bing and Yahoo! that rank documents a website by  matching  keywords and then ranking them by the number of  “hits” or “visits”, to that site by users searching for related documents and information on the World Wide Web.

Since the ranking is based on the number of hits or visits to a website, it’s essentially a “beauty contest” – the “most appealing” website is the websites with the most search hits and wins first place – that is, they appear on the first “page” of the search result.  In television terms, those websites appear on prime time, all the others are relegated to the “less popular” and “less watched” time frame. Obviously, you want your website to show up on “prime time”;

Google Wants Quality Too

online marketing, blog, post, contentIt isn’t just your customers and prospects that are looking for quality material; the most powerful search engine in the land is in the hunt for better material as well.  The latest changes in the Google algorithm have been pointed at article directories and will ultimately make it more difficult for online marketers to draw traffic if they haven’t produced quality work.

Article directories used to be a hotbed of activity for online marketing to generate as many inbound links as possible.  You could easily rehash a previously used piece of content or idea in a few hundred words that would be picked up by search engines and help drive traffic to your site.  With Google’s new algorithm however, these lower quality efforts won’t be getting nearly as much attention from search engines.

If you are new to article marketing for your website, this change to the Google algorithm probably won’t have a whole lot of bearing for you.  Your focus should simply be to deliver the highest quality and most useful articles that you can regardless of where you plan on publishing them in order to get traffic.

In order to build lasting relationships with prospects and customers, your focus should be on providing quality in every step of your business.  If you produce a good product, provide the best possible service and generate the most useful content to draw traffic into your website. That way you should be able to establish your brand and increase your sales.

The Goal of Content Creation and SEO

I found this remarkable graph.  It shows the percentage of traffic on Google that clicks-thru to a website based on the search results position on the page. As you can see, the first position garners nearly one-third of all of the clicks.website management, marketing The number two position gets about 17% of the traffic and the clicks drop dramatically from there.

This really shows how critical it is to achieve that first position on the first page. Anyone that tells you that the goal is to get onto the first or second page is very mistaken. Once you are off the first page, you are not likely to get clicked at all.

So, how do you get on the first page?

You need to create content by writing on a regular basis. Write about current events, opinions, ideas, stories. Give definitions about the products and services in your industry. Write about the resources that are available to

Make a Bigger Impact with Social Media in 2011

Cat5e Cat6/6a CablingIf you haven’t yet begun to see a reasonable return on your time invested on Twitter, you may be thinking about throwing in the towel. Before you give up on Twitter as a marketing mainstay though, try making a few of these simple changes to attract more followers and see better results.

Don’t Over Sell

You are using Twitter for marketing purposes, but that doesn’t mean that you’ve got to constantly advertise your wares by way of your updates.  Extreme self promotion is not a way to gain followers; in fact it’s probably one of the best ways to lose them.
